I started at Fairfax High School during the 2010/2011 school year as a special education teacher. I opened a new MRM class in the spring of that year and helped my students adjust to a mid-year change in teachers. Currently, I work with students in the autism program. My students are enrolled in a course of study that will prepare them to obtain a certificate of completion. Their instruction is based on an Alternate Curriculum, which focuses on functional living skills, independence-building activities, and community-based instruction to help facilitate independent living as adults. We have a wonderful Alternate Curriculum Department at Fairfax. Teachers in the department meet regularly as a Professional Learning Community (PLC). At our meetings, we share expertise and work collaboratively to improve our teaching skills and the academic performance of our students. I hope this helps.
